Thanksgiving Table or Hostess Gifts

Stop a minute….Breathe….Think…..Thanksgiving is a week away and there is still time to think about it…think to enjoy it…In my family (I being one of six siblings and I am in the middle) it is THE holiday of the year.  We have had some of the same food items on the table since the Pilgrims landed, and they will continue to be on the table until the moon is colonized, I am sure.  On the other hand, as new family members are introduced over the years, new favorites and standards join other food on the table, and new food traditions are established.

Therefore, Fat Robin Pottery will be open this  Sunday (Nov. 23) from 12 to 4 if you need serving pieces for any of your favorite foods this coming week.  I am well stocked with my garden leaves serving pieces–parsnip trays, sunflower leaves, kale leaves, ferns,  to name a few.  Also available are slip trailed bowls, and my mamool ware–pottery inspired by the Lebanese butter cookie, mamool.   I wonder how turkey would look served on a great big zucchini leaf platter?

A great selection of pottery perfect for hostess gifts, something to impress your son’s girlfriend (please take him) or favorite cousin or aunt awaits you at the Robin’s Nest (my heated garage, 26 Simmons St., Newport )….During half time at the Patriots game, sneak away for a few minutes.   As usual, call (401-846-9323)  or email ( to make arrangements to come another day–I’ll be here.

Unique Boutique Artisan Fair

After 5 months of planning and preparations, I can say I am almost ready for my first “out of the Robin’s Nest and on my own” craft fair event. Almost because the last glaze kiln is firing and won’t be cool until tomorrow….almost because I am still working on pricing and signs and hang tags and…..  (experienced vendors out there–any words of advice? I still have time to heed wise words and act accordingly!)

After setting up a test drive of the fair display in my back yard, I was able to consolidate and simplify my pottery offerings.  Even though I have many one of a kind items highlighting my favorite surface techniques, this was not the time to show it.   What the display does highlight is all the textures my garden has offered and has then been transferred to my clay surface;  oh, how a simple leaf did intrigue and did inspire me!

Unique Boutique Artisans Fair is at the Easton’s Beach Rotunda in Newport on Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9, from 10 to 4 daily.  I’m looking forward to a fun weekend and to seeing the great crafts of my fellow vendors.
